Point Leo on a sunny summer morning. |
After endless searching of the internet to find what surf conditions are best at certain beaches, I could only really find one chart describing the beaches along the surf coast on Victoria. Because of that, I am creating an ongoing list on all the beaches in Victoria, including the Mornington Peninsula, Phillip Island, Surf Coast and more. This list will be updated regularly as I travel to and surf at more beaches around Melbourne.
MORNINGTON PENINSULA
Point Leo
Crunchies is best to surf two hours before high tide. Sometimes is best to surf just before low tide.
Gunnamatta
Best to surf when swell is around 0.9m to 1.5m high and when tide is low. Light winds usually means that the waves are less rough and safer.
Sorrento
PHILLIP ISLAND
Woolamai
Smiths
Best to surf with northerly winds and when the swell is around 2-4ft.
SURF COAST
Torquay
The best waves at Torquay are when the wind is offshore (north-westerly) and waves are between 2-6 feet. It’s also best during low-mid tide.
