Ultimate Mornington Peninsula Road Trip

"Millionaires Walk"
About a year ago, my travel buddy, Aly, and I wanted to road trip down the Mornington Peninsula. We had to endlessly research what places we could visit and what things we could do. This meant a lot of different websites and endless hours of planning.

In the end, we came up with the perfect road trip from Mornington down to Sorrento. We stopped at many places along the way to look at picturesque views, jump off rocks into reefs and eat local fish and chips. The drive itself took just over an hour but we made sure we had a whole day free to enjoy all the adventures and activities we had planned.

Our first stop was to drive along the Esplanade Coastal Drive from Mornington to Safety Beach.

Along the coastal drive, we stopped at The Pillars in Mount Martha. The Pillars is a beautiful area where you can jump off rocks and cliffs into the sea. The water almost looks like you are right in the middle of the Mediterranean. When researching The Pillars, a lot of websites told us that it was "blocked off" however there are various open tracks to get down to The Pillars.

The Pillars are located between Marguerita Avenue and Deakin Drive, but I found it was best to park at the end of Lempriere Avenue. The walk down to the pillars is quite steep, rocky and dangerous, so make sure to wear good shoes and be careful.

After jumping off cliffs and rocks, we continued along the Coastal Drive and then up to Murray's Lookout in Arthur's Seat. On a clear day, you can see the whole of Port Phillip Bay from the tip of Portsea to the city of Melbourne. We also then went up to Arthur's Seat just so we could get a photo on the iconic big chair.

Next stop was lunch at the Rosebud Pier. We had fish and chips from a local fish and chip shop and ate it on the beach at the pier where we also had a little paddle in the bay.

After a yummy feed, we headed to Millionaire's walk. This walk starts from the end of Point King Road (where there is a lot of parking), and goes along a path along the coast. The walk is about an hour return and very flat and easy. It also had the most amazing views.

The last stop of the day was Sorrento Back Beach for a swim and a peek at the rock pools. Not only is this beach amazing for surfing, but the rock pools can be swam in and there is a cave you can walk through as well. We parked at the Surf Life Saving Club and then went down the stairs onto the beach and rock pools. At Sorrento Beach, there is a rock which can be used to jump off into the rock pools. Although this rock is a lot smaller than the ones at The Pillars, it was still fun jumping into a beautiful rock pool.

After a fun filled, sun filled day, we headed home along the the Mornington Peninsula Freeway.
